September 7 - With AIDS/HIV becoming more and more rampant in South Africa,
there is always room for improvement in the treatment and management of the
disease.
South Africa's first black-owned medical scheme, Sechaba Medical
Solutions, has stepped up to the challenge by introducing a new comprehensive
HIV programme.
Sechaba Well-Care is a revised programme that aims to promote the early
detection of the disease, as well as control of the AIDS virus by making
treatment accessible.
The Managed Care Services Executive at Sechaba Medical Solutions, Dr. Tumi
Seane, said: "We believe HIV/AIDS is manageable and through the programme we can
contribute significantly to the fight against this epidemic."
"There are numerous benefits to joining the Sechaba Well-Care Programme," he
continued. "Besides giving access to healthcare benefits that cover the cost of
HIV/AIDS related treatments such as anti-retroviral medicines (ARVs) and blood
tests, it also gives access to professional and full trained well-care
managers."
Dr. Seane explained that these managers provide counselling, advice and
support, as well as a confidential help line and links to wellness and
healthcare management programmes.
Sechaba's new programme was launched at the recent Board of Healthcare
Funders conference, and seen as a new step forward for the group.
Dr. Seans said that the group has the health and wellbeing of every single
member at heart "and will continue to do everything in our power to promote
healthy living through our Well-Care programme."
