September 2 -
OUTsurance came out with a public thanks to the thousands of people who
helped the group donate tens of thousands of blankets to the needy in South
Africa.
OUTsurance kicked off its blanket drive in June this year in various shopping
centres around the country, where citizens were asked to donate clothes, money
or blankets.
In addition, OUTsurance promised that it would donate two blankets each time
it was called for a quote.
As a result of this drive, over R70 000 in donations were collected, with
close to 40,000 blankets donated across the country via 19 charities.
"We realized that there are many people who would love to help those in need
buy simply don't know where to start," said the Head of Marketing for
OUTsurance, Peter Cronje.? "That's why OUTsurance made it easy for people to
help the less fortunate this winter. And it didn't cost them a cent."
"What we asked the public to do was to take a few minutes of their time to
complete a car insurance quote with one of our advisors," he explained. "For
each car insurance quote, we donated two blankets to those in need."
It was a clearly a win situation for OUTsurance and
the needy in South Africa. The insurance group said that half of those who got a
quote eventually landed up taking the policy.
"For most of them it was only because we saved them money on their car
insurance, but for the rest it was because we saved them money and at the same
time they pride in supporting a company that does something to help South Africa
OUT," said Cronje.
This year's 40,000 blankets collected beat the 31,500 gathered at last year's
drive.
