July 27 - AIG South Africa, which is showing exceptional growth
despite the current market conditions, has announced that it has appointed a new
general manager.
Reinhard Franke joins AIG South Africa from New York where he served as the
senior vice president of strategic practices for American International
Underwriters (AIU).
In this role, Franke was responsible for a portfolio worth over R4 billion,
representing the top fifty clients of this insurance group.
AIG is certainly no strange land to Franke. From 2001 to 2008, he served as
General Manager of AIG Europe from his base in Germany.
The President of AIG Africa, Peter Flint said: "I am delighted that Reinhard
is joining our Africa region at a time when our South African operations are
showing so much promise.
Franke has around 40 years experience in global insurance, having worked for
Allianz Insurance company in a number of the group's branches around the world
prior to 2001, including Brazil and the United States.
The new General Manager will oversee all aspects of AIG South Africa and
country operations will report directly to him.
AIG South Africa has performed well in the past year, despite the growing
problems faced by its parent company in the US. Flint has continuously reassured
AIG customers that the South African division is a separate entity and cannot be
affected by the financial pressures on AIG US.
