December 28 -
Mutual & Federal, one of South Africa's leading short term insurance
companies, managed to bring a smile to the faces of hundreds of children in the
Yeoville area with the construction of a new Wendy house.
The gift was part of the Noah's Ark project that brings corporate firms into
the society to give a little back.
The marketing team donned construction gear and hit the site at the
Emmerentia Botanical Gardens to construct the Wendy house that will serve
children in the area.
The Noah (Nurturing Orphans of Aids for Humanity) organization runs over 100
'Arks' across South Africa to provide what they term 'networks of care' for
children.
According to Noah, the arks provide the children 'an opportunity to grow up
emotionally, psychologically and physically healthy adults.'
The Mutual & Federal team began their building session at 9 am and five hours
later, the Wendy house was up. Several more hours of painting produced a
delightful hideout for the children who visit the area.
The group manager for Marketing at Mutual & Federal, Laurien Comyn said: "We
felt very strongly about giving something special to the community we serve."
"We also want to encourage other people to do more for the less fortunate,"
added Comyn.
Giving back to the community is certainly not a strange concept to Mutual &
Federal.
The short term giant spends over R2 million every year on a number of
corporate social initiatives.
