August 19 - Those involved in the current South African insurance industry
would be wise to attend a particularly interesting forum to be held next week in
Johannesburg.
The forum, entitled Risk Insurance, will be run by the Life Offices
Association, the organization that is responsible for long term insurance in the
country.
While risk insurance within the life insurance industry does not usually make
the media, it is generally considered a very important part of the overall
industry. Thus, the LOA felt that it was a good idea to bring all
interested parties up to date with the latest developments in this sector of the
market.
As such, all underwriters, insurance agents, intermediaries, claims assessors
and basically anyone involved in the life insurance industry are invited to
attend the Risk Insurance Forum.
The seminar, due to take place over a one day period, will be held at the
Hyatt Regency Hotel in Johannesburg (191 Oxford Road, Rosebank) on the 27th of
August, 2008. The seminar itself begins at 8 am sharp.
Several interesting topics will be discussed by top personalities in the
insurance industry. These include a talk by the ombudsman for long term
insurance, Judge Brian Galgut on the 'fine line' between non disclosure and mis-selling;
an overview of the importance of risk cover in the financial planning process,
given by the CEO of acsis, Andew Bentley and a presentation of the LOA's gap
study that investigated shortfalls in the life and disability insurance market.
Attendees will also be able to receive an update of the Standardized Critical
Illness Definitions Project.
