March 30 - It would be nice if they offered insurance policies for newlyweds in the event that their marriage failed, perhaps South African insurance companies should look into this lucrative market? Divorce is becoming almost as big a certainty as death, and many people would find a divorce policy a great comfort.
In the meantime let's be more practical and consider what insurance you should have as a young South African embarking on that great adventure of wedded bliss.
If you live apart and your goods are located within separate residences it is probably a good idea to continue to insure those items separately. If you live together you should have a single household insurance policy that covers all your stuff in a united manner.
Make sure that you insure your engagement and wedding rings, and itemize them individually on any policy. Keep your receipts and valuation certificates (get those when you purchase any item of jewelry) so that you can make a valid claim if they are stolen or misplaced.
Do not forget to insure your wedding gifts, or to make snap judgements about your friends and family based on what they gave you for the wedding, and how much they really figured you were worth.
