French Reinsurance Company Arrives in SA |

January 8 - Showing confidence in the South African insurance industry, well-established French reinsurance firm, Scor Group, has opened an office in Johannesburg, a clear indication of the huge potential many foreign insurance firms see in South Africa. Said Scor Global P&C CEO, Victor Peignet, 'Now that Scor Group has a presence in the South African insurance industry, we are confident that we can create a platform from which to launch our range of comprehensive reinsurance products to the English and other language speaking markets. 'It is our objective to become an important and respected player in terms of South Africa's lucrative reinsurance market, while never losing sight of the fact that we aim to become a long-term, reliable and stable reinsurance partner for our clients,' continued Peignet. The Scor Group is clearly aiming to increase and diversify its client base throughout South Africa, as well as other southern African countries. These include Nigeria and Angola, with which Scor already has long-term relationships, with regards to their vast oil and mining industries. Scor Group has appointed M Mohamed Motala to manage its Johannesburg office. Motala, who was previously director of reinsurance at ABSA Insurance Company Ltd as well as a client manager for Swiss Re Africa, has an MBA from the University of Pretoria.
