June 3 - Edcon, together with SA Eagle Legal Expenses Underwriting
Managers and Europ Assistance South Africa, has introduced a new insurance
service to its customers, allowing them to take out policies that will protect
them against legal action.
The Edgars Legal Plan and the Jet Legal Plan will offer all Edcon account
holders a range of options relating to legal and labor issues.
The Financial Services Executive of Edcon, Ian Wood said: "Edcon is
continually looking for ways to enhance its customers' lifestyles. The legal
insurance product fits into this overall strategy and is aimed at bringing
considerable value to our customers and to the group."
Premiums will cost under R35 per month and will have a maximum claim amount
for each incident.
In addition to the new insurance policies, Edcon already runs a free 24/7 hot
line that offers legal advice to Jet and Edgars account holders. The hotline is
not connected in any way to the Edgars Legal Plan and the Jet Legal Plan. Europ
Assistance South Africa (EASA) will provide telephonic advice for the new
insurance policies.
To obtain these insurance policies, Edcon customers can call Edgars and Jet
customer services for assistance, or they can turn directly to any of the stores
in both chains. Enrollment is done electronically, and staff will be on hand to
answer any questions or queries that customers may have.
A three month waiting period is a prerequisite of the insurance policies,
after which time the insurance coverage will kick in, providing of course that
installments have been paid.
Edcon stated that it would not cover any cases that were pending against the
client before the policy was taken out, or during the three month waiting
period.
