June 15 - With crime on the rise in South Africa, many people are finding the
need to deal with insurance more often than usual as they try to claim back for
expenses incurred by theft or personal injury.
Aquarius Underwriting Managers, experts in the field, have outlined
some of the things that policyholders can do in order to make the insurance
process as painless and hassle-free as possible. The last thing that customers
need is further stress after experiencing a crime, and Aquarius has some useful
tips.
The most important thing that policyholders can do is be proactive when it
comes to their insurance policies. This means reading them over and
familiarizing themselves with the terms and conditions, as well as the claim
back process BEFORE a crime. This not only educates policyholders about the
insurance they have, but it can also highlight any deficiencies in their current
policies and may be the catalyst for change to another insurance company.
If and when the crime occurs, policyholders should report it as soon as
possible to the police, and then straight afterwards contact their insurance
brokers to give accurate descriptions about damage and losses.
Policyholders are urged by Aquarius to cooperate fully with their insurance
company in order to secure a settlement as soon as possible and to help with the
investigations.
Naturally, policyholders should do everything in their power to avoid a crime
being committed in the first place such as a protecting their property from
dangerous elements.
One way of speeding up the claims process includes having an inventory on
hand of all the property covered by the insurance policy. Naturally, this has to
be done before a crime occurs, but will be able to greatly assist with
assessment and payouts if need be. This inventory should be kept up to date as
items are added/removed.
