A member company of the American International Group, Inc. (AIG), AIG South Africa Limited was founded in 1962 as a short-term insurance company in South Africa.

In line with South Africa's ongoing Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) drive, AIG SA introduced a Graduate Development program.

The objective of the one year program is to nurture and encourage young black graduates to join the South African insurance industry, as well as provide them with the necessary AIG-backed support and infrastructure to achieve senior positions in SA business.

AIG also owns International Lease and Finance Corporation (ILFC), the biggest leasing company of wide bodied aircraft in the world today, the same company in fact, that leases Airbuses to South African Airways (SAA).
